The Bailey Gift...
I believe that sometimes in life, we are given special gifts. Perhaps that gift is the ability to care for someone with unadulterated love, or be the receiver of it; perhaps, a moment to revel in gentleness and kindness bestowed; perhaps, an occasion receiving words of sincere thanks and appreciation; perhaps, it is a friend. All these things are gifts. I would argue however, that the truest gift beneath them all, is the fact that these things are living pictures of Christ. They are aspects of His character shining through people around us. They are gifts we receive, and they are gifts that we ought seek every opportunity to give. It is said that to give is better to receive, and given Christ's example of giving until it cost him his very life? I would say it is correct.
These last few days, I have been overwhelmingly gifted with every one of the things I mentioned above. As my focus has been diligence working these past months, I feel I have often neglected to care well, to love well, to stop and enjoy precious moments, to give thanks, to genuinely appreciate. Regardless of that, I have been surrounded by family and dear friends who reached out to bestow on me all these good things. It is overwhelming, to be loved well. It is beautiful. And I dare say, it is convicting. I can speak to the power of these good things...and the way I have been touched...and I can point to so many ways and so many opportunities where I want to reach into others lives.
George Bailey got a gift. He got see what the world would be like if he wasn't in it. I've never been given that gift...but I have a better idea what it would be like if each and every one of YOU, who have loved me well, were not in it. I rejoice in a loving God, who loves me well...through you. Thank you, friends!
